Windows-based Manual-Scan-Where-You-Band II (MSWYB II) is an updated version of MSWYB, a standard unit of USPS Mail Processing Equipment (MPE). MSWYB II’s application has been moved from a DOS environment to a Windows-based operating system utilizing the latest processor platform. The system uses off-the-shelf peripheral components, such as an ARCNET card, printer, scale, handheld scanner, etc.
The use of a Windows platform improves the quality of the user interface, making it more intuitive and simple to use, and enhances the security of the system. MSWYB II system assigns and dispatches mail to airline and surface transportation assignments, and interfaces to the Transaction Concentrator (TC). Operators scan the distribution label to obtain the ZIP Code and mail class information, or enter the information using the keypad. The mailpiece is weighed and the collected information is processed and a request is sent to the TC for assignment. The TC responds with a routing assignment and a label is printed. MSWYB II can also make bulk mail assignments.
